More than 40% of respondents pointed out that the most important thing is optimization in fuel economy, and 92% believe that the quality / performance ratio of the tire is more important than sustainable production.

Continental has released the results of a recent survey carried out with Forsa, a market research institute, with more than 1,000 German drivers under the title “The Tire of the Future” and highlights that “more than 40% of those surveyed indicated that the most important thing is the optimization of fuel economy ”and that“ 92% believe that the quality / performance ratio of the tire is more important than sustainable production ”.

Specifically, Continental points out that “more than 40% of the participants agreed that the most important thing is that the tires of the future must optimize fuel economy. Second place was taken by puncture resistance ”.

Continental makes clear that “as the study reveals, responses vary depending on age range. Thus, people between the ages of 18 and 29 rated resistance as the most important aspect. On the other hand, an energy efficient tire was the most chosen among people aged 45-59 years, while materials and sustainable production is the priority for those aged 30-44 years.

The price of the future tire and the label

Regarding the price of the future tire, Continental reports that “92% of the respondents rated the price / performance ratio as“ important ”or“ very important ”. At the same time, 75% of drivers said that lower rolling resistance and the consequent drop in fuel consumption is also “important” or “very important”.

Continental points out that “a tire optimized for rolling resistance and mileage can have a positive impact on the total operating costs of a car,” and Andreas Schlenke, development engineer for Continental Tires, explains that ” For this reason consumers should pay more attention to the European labeling of tires. An A rating for rolling resistance indicates that the tire rolls with optimum energy efficiency; and if wet braking also receives an A, that is a guarantee that you are buying a very safe and sustainable tire. ”

Furthermore, Schlenke explains that “the social debate on the mobility of the future will influence the future of tires. Our products will play an even greater role in safety, as well as in increasing energy efficiency, puncture resistance and sustainability. Still, it’s worth noting that we already offer products that meet the demands of tomorrow’s tire. For example, our current EcoContact tire generates 20% less rolling resistance than its predecessor and offers 12% more mileage. Our Taraxagum technology demonstrates that dandelion rubber offers an alternative to that from the tropics. For electric cars we have designed special technologies that ensure minimal rolling resistance, while providing excellent safety performance. For increased puncture resistance, our ContiSeal technology immediately seals any puncture in the tread. Finally, imminently, our tires will be able to know for themselves when the tread is worn. Furthermore, in the future they will possibly monitor and adjust tire pressures without interrupting the journey. ”
