BFGoodrich pays tribute to Carlos Sainz for his Dakar victory

BFGoodrich, world leader in off-road tires for more than 100 years, pays tribute to Carlos Sainz after achieving his third victory on the Dakar. The Spanish rider once again made the most of the competitive and reliable All Terrain T / A KDR2 + in the world’s toughest rally
The alliance between Carlos Sainz and BFGoodrich returned to great results in the Dakar 2020. The Spanish pilot, behind the wheel of a MINI JCW Buggy, won the toughest rally-raid in the world, showing off his incalculable talent, the good vehicle performance and tire reliability BFGoodrich, a world leader in off-road tires for over 100 years. BFGoodrich has paid tribute to the Spanish rider in Madrid for his last victory and for his unique record in the test.

“I am very happy for this tribute from BFGoodrich, which makes me very excited. My link with this brand is very long-lasting and successful, and even if we talk about Michelin, it goes back to the World Rally Championship ”, declares Carlos Sainz. “In the Dakar you have to have a versatile tire that is competitive in sand, dunes, track … and is also reliable. This is key and it was in the Dakar in Saudi Arabia, where we had to overcome very large stones, with which we had to be very careful and we managed not to puncture ”, he adds.

For her part, Rebeca Nieto, Commercial Director of Michelin Spain Portugal, thanked Carlos Sainz for his constant involvement and work: “Our champion has achieved a true milestone: winning three Dakar victories with three different cars. Of course, always with BFGoodrich, with which Carlos considers ‘his’ tire. Because if there is a driver in the international automotive scene who understands and gives the tire the importance it really has, that is Carlos. We are very proud to have a champion like Carlos among our family, a reference to follow for how he faces each challenge, both on and off the track. For the Michelin Group, collaboration with Carlos has always been, and will continue to be, a guarantee of success ”.

Carlos Sainz: a pilot without limits
At 58, Carlos Sainz has accumulated successes that place him among the best drivers in the history of off-road competition. After his successful stint at the National Rally Championship and the World Rally Championship, where he achieved numerous successes with Michelin, he focused his sporting career on raids and soon began to add important victories, such as the Cross Country World Cup, which he won in 2007, and started racing the Dakar. As a driver of the demanding rally-raid, he has won three victories (2010, 2018 and 2020), each with a different brand (Volkswagen, Peugeot and MINI), although he has always relied on the same tire manufacturer: BFGoodrich.

The success story may not end here, since the Spanish does not rule out his continuity in the test. If it continued, it would be clear which tire brand to trust. “I do not rule out participating again next year if a winning project comes up. Just in case, I already have prepared the list of developments that should be implemented, “he said.

BFGoodrich and the Dakar Rally
The Dakar MINI team buggies relied again this year on BFGoodrich® All Terrain T / A KDR2 + tires, capable of guaranteeing the qualities necessary to be competitive and win in a rally like this, such as puncture resistance, efficiency on soft ground and the ability to evacuate mud. The tires adapted perfectly to the new route of the rally, which was held for the first time in Saudi Arabia. As did the Spanish pilot, leader of the test from the third day of competition.

Being an official Dakar Rally tire is a responsibility for BFGoodrich, who returned to the rally in 2017 with a treble in the general classification, identical result to the one harvested in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions. But the history of the tire manufacturer and the rally more The world’s hard has a lot more track than the last two successful years. From its leading position in the Allterrain segment equipping millions of 4 × 4 vehicles or supporting participants in offroad competitions with strong and stable performance, BFGoodrich understands the Dakar as the most demanding test bench in the world. The brand accumulates a total of 16 absolute victories in the test.
