Imports of ‘made in Asia’ tires have become a real rise and fall in the Spanish replacement market. Yes, because ADINE, the National Association of Tire Distributors and Importers that represents more than 80% of the tire distribution sector nationwide, for the sake of transparency, has just announced that “the import of Asian tires falls by 7.7% in consumer and grows by 19.6% in truck during 2019 ”.

It goes up and down because, by refreshing the memory, in 2018 ADINE reported that the import of the Asian tire grew by 6.3% in consumer and fell by 21.9% in truck, arguing then that “this decline has occurred as a result of the imposition of anti-dumping measures by the European Commission ”. And in 2017, the same idle as roller coaster: ADINE noted that imports of Asian tires had grown by 14.2% in consumer, down 2% in trucks and up 15.6% in agriculture.

Within its report “Analysis of the evolution of Asian tire imports during 2009-2019” in Spain, prepared with data from the ICEX (Tax Agency). ADINE highlights in its statement that “at the end of the year 2019, we can verify that the imports of consumer tires (tourism, 4 × 4 and van) have registered a decrease of -7.7%, compared to the same period of the year previous, with a total of 9,409,050 units, of which 6,992,040 come mainly from China ”.

However, ADINE highlights that “imports of truck tires ‘made in Asia’ have registered“ an increase of 19.6%, compared to 2018, with a total of 450,130 imported units, highlighting again the increase in imports of Thailand and Vietnam with 240.5% and 169.6% respectively, while imports of truck tires from China continue to fall -41.3%, all after the imposition by the European Commission of the measures anti-dumping. “

Thus, together, ADINE stresses that at the end of the 2019 financial year, the evolution of imports of consumer and truck tires ‘made in Asia’, compared to 2018, “reflect a decrease of -6.7%, with some 9,859,180 imported tires. ”

Regarding the import of motorcycle tires ‘made in Asia’, ADINE notes that “there has been a decrease of -8.2%, compared to the previous year, with a total of 926,990 imported units, of which 626,440 units come mainly from Thailand. And finally, regarding the agricultural segment, during 2019 there has been a decrease of -7.6%, compared to the same period of 2018, with a total of 223,680 imported agricultural or forestry tires, of which 118,510 come mainly from India. ” (ALL INFORMATION IN DETAIL IN THE NEXT MARCH NUMBER OF THE MAGAZINE ‘EUROPNEUS’)
